About Contractors Equipment Insurance

ContractorsEquipmentInsurance.com is a quote request and online application website for inland marine insurance. Contractors, equipment owners, rental companies, truckers, builders, galleries and other businesses can use it to apply for coverage on property that moves or sits somewhere temporary.

Inland marine is a specialty line. Many general business policies leave it out, and the questions underwriters ask are different for every class: serial numbers and storage security for equipment, completed values and construction type for builders risk, commodities and radius for cargo. Each application on this site is built from the questions underwriters in that class actually ask.

Who uses this site

Contractors and equipment owners

Excavation, paving, concrete, HVAC, electrical, roofing and other trades that own, finance or rent machines and tools. One equipment floater can be set up to cover equipment you own, rent from others, and rent out.

Builders, installers and trucking companies

General contractors and owners buying builders risk, installers carrying materials to a job, and motor carriers who need cargo coverage.

Rental businesses, galleries and specialty owners

Equipment rental yards, portable toilet and dumpster companies, museums, galleries, private collectors, solar owners and other businesses with property that moves or sits somewhere temporary.

Insurance agents

Agents can submit an application for a client, send the client a link to complete it, or request an appointment on the agents page.

How it works

  1. Pick the coverage you need, or search for your equipment or business type.
  2. Fill out the application or quote request. Most take 5 to 15 minutes.
  3. The submission goes to the underwriting desk as a complete application, with a PDF.
  4. Someone follows up by phone or email with questions or quote options.
  5. If you choose to buy, the policy is bound and certificates go to your lender, lessor or customer.

What we ask for, and why

Underwriters price inland marine on specific details. Having these ready makes the quote faster:

  • An equipment list with year, make, model, serial number and value
  • Where the property is kept overnight, and how it is secured
  • Losses in the past 3 to 5 years, even small ones
  • Lender, lessor or rental company names for certificates
  • For builders risk: the project value, construction type and start date
